Walter Wangerin Jr. first came to prominence as the award-winning author of The Book of the Dun Cow. He has since won many other awards and honors for his books, which include The Book of God, Reliving the Passion, Mourning into Dancing, Ragman and Other Cries of Faith, As for Me and My House, The Manger Is Empty, Little Lamb Who Made Thee? and The Book of Sorrows. His book Miz Lil and the Chronicles of Grace has been adapted as a screenplay by the award-winning writer Horton Foote. Wangerin holds the Jochum Chair at Valparaiso University, where he is writer-in-residence. He lives with his wife in Valparaiso, Indiana

Intriguing book on prayer

I purchased this book knowing nothing about the author, but because the title intrigued me. It has challenged me in my walk with God to devote more time to the act of prayer. Especially helpful/educational was the first part of the book where you are encouraged to LISTEN to God when you pray, not just simply rattle off a list of requests. The focus of the book is to challenge the reader to know God through prayer, and to develop that relationship through prayer. It has done that to me, and I would encourage others to read, think, and do the same.

Amazing!!!

Everything in Whole Prayer made so much sense. Only a month after I've read it, I find myself advising my friends in their prayer lives using Wally's words. Prayer is communication between us and God, it is not just asking God for something and expecting him to fulfill our wishes. I originally checked Whole Prayer out of the library, I can't wait to buy it and read it again.
I think my favorite part was being able to "see" what Wally was describing in the first chapter about Alaska. His descriptive style amazes me. I felt as if I was experiencing Alaska for the first time along with him and Thanne.

Wonderful Book

This book really helped me understand that prayer is about talking with God, not just to him. Not just sharing our hearts with him, but listening as he opens his heart to us.
