About the Author
Radclyffe has written over fifty romance and romantic intrigue novels, dozens of
short stories, and, writing as L.L. Raand, has authored a paranormal romance series, The Midnight Hunters. She has also edited Best Lesbian Romance 2009 through 2015 as well as multiple other anthologies. She is an eight-time Lambda Literary Award finalist in romance, mystery, and erotica—winning in both romance and erotica. A member of the Saints and Sinners Literary Hall of Fame, she is also an RWA Prism, Lories, Beanpot, Aspen Gold, and Laurel Wreath winner in multiple mainstream romance categories. The Rivers Community novels have great characters that never get fully developed

I have always considered Radclyffe the gold standard for Lesbian Romance. This series does not have the depth of characters or plot of the Honor, Justice, and Provincetown books. In the other series you have two characters who are central while other characters are introduced in additional books. Cameron and Blair, Rebecca and Catherine, Tory and Reese. You know these characters and watch their internal and external struggles play out on the page. The sex is hot.

The Rivers Community novels have great characters that never get fully developed. In Love On Call you are given hints of Glenn's war experiences and Mari's family and illness but no details are provided. The facts are simply used as the initial excuses for why the women can't become involved and then in a cliche ending why they do. While most of the previous characters are reintroduced, they just seem to show up to fill in the blanks. The sex is standard lesbian romance fare.

I would recommend the book because Radclyffe is the author but you might want to wait until you can pick up a used copy or just purchase it for your Kindle.

so disappointing

I love Radclyffe. I love her books up until and through the paranormal series. The last few of her contemporary romances have been phoned in. There simply isn't any thought, depth or real feeling to them—the pairings and language are retreads of tropes she herself loves. The sex, one of her best strengths, is too little, too late, and not enough. While I've loved most of her work, I'm really hesitant to support her work anymore. It's awful, because she got me excited about the romance genre again. This is a really heartfelt plea for the big publishing houses to rethink their product. Right now it's a wasteland, and I'd rather invest in people who self-publish or write fanfiction. There's more substance and joy there.

I'm a Radclyffe fan but this book didn't work for me. The tension and excitement she creates in a new relationship was missing and I could never get into the story. And really, how many lesbians are there going to be at the Rivers?!

Comprehensive and Helpful!

Dr. Haas has put together one of the most complete nutrition books that can be enjoyed by the average reader. From what I have read, he makes no outrageous claims, though he does believe nutrition can offer health benefits (which would distinguish this book from a standard nutrition textbook). While the price may seem a little steep, there are 1140 pages that contain a wealth of information. The first 353 pages list virtually every popular nutrient (vitamins, minerals, fats, etc) and food category (such as beans, citrus fruits, etc). He even gives relevant information on the pseudo-vitamins such as Pangamic Acid (B15), amygdalin (B17), and Vitamin U. He also lists many of the popular diets and their benefits and drawbacks.
He also includes a very helpful section on "the Environmental Aspects of Nutrition." Possible pollutants and common food additives are discussed. He lists "88 Survival Suggestions."
Over 100 pages are dedicated to a Seasonal Cookbook. The foods are healthy, but possibly difficult for the average reader to obtain. It is possible with a little work however. There is a section on "Nutritional Application," which has special diets and suggestions for people with cancer, heart disease, yeast syndrome, and other disorders. He also includes suggestions for executives, adults, children, alcoholics, and adolescents. Overall the Nutritional Application section is very complete.
Finally he includes around 80 pages of health questionnaires that test health knowledge and actually intend to estimate one's health level. I use this whenever I have general or specific health questions. I recommend it highly.

Should be everyone's nutrition bible.

Dr Haas has written an exhausting, thorough and informative "bible" about everything from what carbs, proteins and fats are and how they work to every vitamin, mineral and supplement you can imagine to special diets for different stages of your life or special needs to recipes...it just covers everything. I especially have to rave about a Western doctor who recognizes the validity of things like food combining and Candidiasis.
This book is over 1,100 pages and it's just jam packed with more information than you will think you need, but then you'll be surprised to find how many sections you'll flip to for info that pertains to you and your family.
I have a huge library of nutrition books and references that are really useful and well-written, but I'd toss them all just to have this one. If you are hesitant about the price or the size of the book, don't be. You will find it to be incredibly useful, easy to understand and beneficial when applied to your own daily life. I know I did.
This is far and away THE best nutrition book out there, I can't see how anyone could top this, unless he releases it with more information one day (and I can't see how there could be more.)

The definitive comprehensive nutrition reference

For those looking for the omnibus, cover-all reference book on nutrition, this is it. It is a thoroughly comprehensive examination of nutrition from just about every possible facet. Dr. Haas incorporates most of the more modern and alternative thinking on nutrition, even going so far as to examine environmental and spiritual issues, while avoiding the extreme, faddish ideas either of the medical establishment or the alternative fringe. He really does seem to have taken the time to weigh the value of studies done in both the mainstream and alternative research communities and brought together the clear, probable truths from both camps. And by the same token, he provides warnings against the doubtful claims of both sides.
This is not a book, however, for those looking for a quick, capsule synopsis of a dietary approach. Those people might be better served with Patrick Holford's "Optimum Nutrition Bible" which provides much of the same information in a condensed form. Rather this book is ideal for those looking to make an informed decision based on their own choices.

While I think Ha-Joon Chang could have devoted at least ...

While I think Ha-Joon Chang could have devoted at least a little bit more time to an economic topic this weighty, he manages to offer an incredibly comprehensive and ultimately compelling argument for why developing countries should use protectionist trade policies to enhance economic growth.
There were two particular elements of Chang's research that I really appreciated. The first was the level of rigor that he applied in trying to isolate trade policies as a causal factor in economic growth. Instead of simply looking at a country's tariff levels and then their GDP growth, he also explores different countries level of "institutional development" in areas such as democratic representation, child labor laws, limited liability laws, central banking autonomy, bankruptcy policy, etc. In pursuing this kind of methodology, he is able to more effectively argue that the issue behind developing countries' lackluster economic growth is not a lack of maturity in these democratic institutions (in fact, many of them are more maturely developed than that of most NDC (now-developed countries) were at their highest points of industrialization) but rather a lack of protectionism.
Another thing that I appreciated was his willingness to point out that the UK and the US experienced their highest rates of industrialization when they had some of the highest tariff rates in history. Similarly, India and China have the highest rates of industrialization among developing countries while pursuing the most aggressively protectionist trade policy.
While his research/methodology could be criticized for being incomplete, I still think that his book offers an unique, maybe even essential perspective in an area where it seems as though the dominating consensus is free-trade and unfettered globalization. A must-read for all the neo-classicals/neo-liberals.

An iconoclastic and sophiscated work

According to Michael Lind's book review in Prospect (Jan 2002), this book is "the most important book about the world economy to be published in years." And the author received the 2003 Myrdal Award for this book, which is awarded annually to a great academic achievement in the field of development/institutional economics following the late Swedish economist's name Gunar Myrdal who was a Nobel Prize laureate.
Prof. Ha-Joon Chang of Cambridge argues in this book that developed countries used some measures for promoting their economy in their earlier days of development, which they are now blaming for making the economies of developing country worse and the world economic order unfree.
The author reverses this logic. According to his arguments, policy-suggestions from such arguments of developed countries are in fact making the economy in developing countries lag behind and its development impossible, and such a rule of game in the world economy now can be rather unfair to them because developing countries even are often punished due to their using of the very same methods which developed ones used in the past.
As a critique of neo-liberal market fundamentalism, this book is very iconoclastic because it gives readers a sophisticated understanding of the real history of industrial development as well as pleasure of reading an academically original and creative work. This book is above all analytical in terms of using the method of historical comparisons. Some comparisons may be too bold. But its creativity and integrity in organizing the research overcome the limits of bold comparison.

A telling attack on free trade

Written more for an academic/professional/specialist audience than the general reader, Chang's short book is still accessible and full of information that is vital to our understanding of how the ideology of free trade has been created in order to reward developed nations at the expense of those trying to develop. The United States, Great Britain, Germany--essentially every country that has successfully industrialized--used tariffs, protections of infant industries, control of capital markets and other policies that poor countries are told they must not try or abandon if they are implementing them. The hammer has been the threat of losing funding from IMF or World Bank although the conditionalities of Structural Adjustment may be as harmful as the economic imbalances they are meant to address.

The ladder image is simple and brilliant. It was coined by Frederich List, a nineteenth century Germany economist, to describe how the already successful United Kingdom tried to impose free trade policies on nations that hadn't yet become industrial powers and is no less true today than it was in 1834.

Chang's historical approach is devastating to free trade apologists and propagandists who serve the dominant development ideology which keeps poor countries poor. His more popular book "Bad Samaritans" is based some of the research evident here.

Very good book with great details and visual aids. The book is in English. (I was slightly concerned it might come in Italian!) Alfa spider manual

Book in very good condition, but it was a copy and was too dark and over toned it is impossible to read things like wire diagrams. Unfortunately that was an area that I needed, but by thumbing through book was able to figure out the repair we were trying to make.

Surprising, but not in a good way.

When I first looked at this book (after opening the package from Amazon), I thought it would be perfect... it's not a hefty 1000-page cookbook... and seemed like it would be just the perfect level of detail to rein in the broad topics into something coherent. In fact, the book does a decent job with the overall picture, but has some major flaws in style, presentation, and bias that renders it a groggy, often un-informing, experience. I stuck with it, because I had no alternative at hand, and a tight timeframe, so I can speak as a reviewer that has actually read the book.

The Good: This book contains a decent overview of SOA components and does tie them together in a good overall picture.

The Bad (part I): This book was written by an IBM Senior Architect. The technical editor for the book is an IBM Architect. The forward was written by an IBM Fellow. The back cover contains endorsements from two IBMers, one of which is the VP for WebSphere Marketing. Much of the book contains unbiased information on industry standards. However, much of the rest of the book is an over-the-top promotion of IBM products. For example, the capstone of this work is the chapter on Enterprise Service Bus. This chapter reads like glossy marketing literature for IBM products at best and like an informertial at worst. That chapter is only 30 pages long, but uses the word "WebSphere" 24 times by my count. Conversely, the non-IBM Weblogic is mentioned exactly 0 times in the same chapter, and rarely throughout the rest of the book. This book calls IBM's WESB "the prime example" of an application server based ESB and goes on to list, in bulletized form, its "features and advantages". In another section, the author states, "IBM offers the most complete product lines in this area."

The Bad (part II): This book is poorly presented. It can't decide if it is a 40,000 ft overview or a detailed description of various technologies. For example, SOAP is covered in 22 short pages. That's obviously not enough for anything more than an explanation of what it is, how it is used, why it's good, and a few examples. Yet the author tries to dive into the structure of a SOAP message to the point of who-cares detail for a book like this. In the 22 pages covering SOAP, for example, the author states FIVE TIMES that if the header element is present, it must precede the body element.

In addition, the author uses a highly verbose and repetitive style. It often seems that about 20% of the book is either telling you what it's going to tell you or telling you what it's already told you. The book could have contained the same amount of useful information in about 200 pages. This overly verbose and repetitive style gives the book a sense that the author, a PhD, does not know how to communicate effectively with lesser intellects and frequently overshoots his simplification. The result is that the work often, but inconsistently, reads a bit like a "for dummies" type of book.

Excellent Book for Integration Through SOA

Waseem did a great job of explaining the concepts of SOA for a novice, as well as providing the details needed for actual integration efforts, as best as can be done outside the context of the needs of any specific business entity.

Waseem was a colleague of mine, and is a friend. After I received the book from Amazon for the purpose of reviewing, I could find time only recently to go through the pages of this book on a long flight from DC to California. I am extremely impressed with the overall content of the book, as well as the way Waseem presented it; in particular by the way he bridges the gap from concept to practice.

I can relate to the content in this book from my own experience over the years. I have had the opportunity to create enterprise-wide SOA strategy as a lead architect at some of the largest corporations and industry leaders in the world, and led their implementations. Integration has inevitably been one of the essential aspects of these SOA implementations, due to the many mission critical legacy applications and platforms in various line of business at these large corporations, and due to their need to integrate with business partners. These needs for integration spanned a wide variety of hardware platforms (from the largest mainframes to the latest smart phones), many operating systems, a variety of middleware platforms, as well as several application platforms (like ERP systems), all from different vendors. Indeed for some of these corporations, integration is the entry point into SOA, while others could embark on a broader implementation of SOA. I also had the opportunity to conduct reviews of projects at a few other corporations; some of these projects that I reviewed were successful, and some not so successful, for a variety of reasons. This book undoubtedly covers many of the integration techniques needed for successful integration, starting with SOA concepts and related standards, and proceeding to a good amount of detail.

There are just a few details where I might differ, but that pales in comparison to the overall value of the book. I strongly recommend this book to all those who may be interested in integration through SOA. Great job, Waseem!

A Pleasant Surprise: Great Book on SOA and Enterprise Integration

When I first started reading the book, I thought it would be just another SOA book, with lots of fluff/propaganda and little solid material on SOA. However, I was very pleasantly surprised by the contents of the book. The book does provide a great overview of SOA and the associated distributing computing technologies such as sockets, RPC, distributed objects, and messaging but, in addition, it provides code examples for each of SOA-based integration patterns, which makes it extremely useful book for practictioning IT professional such as IT Architects and developers.

Furthermore, a very appealing aspects of this book is that it provides a complete description of the SOA and SOA-based integration patterns by addressing gaps in these areas which exists in the current literature. Thus, in addition to describing web services and how to develop them, it contains detailed chapters on the enterprise service bus and integration of mainframe based applications. I especially liked the chapter on the Enterprise Service Bus - I have not found such a comprehensive treatment of the Enterprise Service Bus in any other book on SOA.

In the end, I have learned a great deal from reading this book and I highly recommend this book to any IT professional who is interested in the subject of SOA and Enterprise integration. The book would serve as a great reference for IT architects, senior developers, and IT managers.

Starts where "Color Me Beautiful" leaves off...

If you liked "Color Me Beautiful" you will love "All Your Winning Colors".
Find the correct color season when you couldn't quite nail it down with the earlier season books. This goes way beyond those to explore how you can be one season but with some of another thrown in too. I discovered I am Summer as I thought but with some Winter and Spring thrown in. Now I understand why some Winter and Spring colors are also winners for me. Most of this variety is due to ethnic variations we inherit from our parents. She outlines what your skin looks like and how to determine just what is great for you.

I purchased both of Wendy's books "All Your Winning Colors" and "Love Me Love My Colors" a week or so ago and love them!!! Found them here on Amazon And, thoroughly enjoyed both. What I liked most is the attention to detail for each possibility; made it easy to identify myself. Just ordered a reprint of the ClassicSummer palette, and received it perfect condition.
