Live life to the fullest by living in God's shadow!

Fear has gripped this world. Research shows that only 8% of what we worry about actually materializes! WOW! This book is divided into 9 chapters. What follows is a brief synopsis of what each chapter is about. This well written book has WAY more gems in it than I have listed.
1) Living the Fearless Life
Fear - False Evidence Appearing Real
We will never have all the answers but God wants us leaning on Him. Live in the faith zone not the safe zone. The choice is OURS!

2) Fearless about Failures
Fear paralyzes people from reaching their dreams. The fear of failure is in the TOP 10 of worst human fears. Did you know there are 2,000 listed fears and phobias? We are only born with 2 (loud noises and falling), the rest are learned.
Leave your comfortable life and take advantage of the opportunities. Be ready to move into your God given destiny.
Thomas Edison failed 6,000 times. It is impossible to eliminate failure in our lives but how we handle the failures is what counts.
Abe Lincoln's failures outnumbered his successes before he became president. The author cites many more examples.
Be willing to fail and learn. Be courageous. Do not compromise.

3) Fearless about people.
If God cares for the sparrow, even the worthless 5th one, how much more does he care for you? Remember who you are in Him. Do not be full of pride or on the opposite side - self deprecation. You are not worthless. David was the "odd" one in his family and look how God used him.
The devil wants you to feel worthless, odd and insignificant. God wants to make your life significant.

4) Fearless about having enough

God is your source of financial provision. Jesus preached 5x more on money and possessions than He did on prayer and fasting.
If you don't master money it will master you!
God does not bless lazy and/or stingy people! Money comes with responsibility. God never intended us to stay in slavery to debt permanently. God has a way out for you.
God wants to bless us financially so we can bless others in return. He died to give us an abundant life. However, we need to guard against the love of money more than God. The author mentions the great words of Psalm 112.

5) Fearless about your family.,
If you have children then get this book and read this chapter if you read nothing else!
Fight for your family in prayer. Family is satan's #1 target. Be vigilant but not fearful. Prayers leave an impact. Jentezen talks about the time he tried to get high as a teenager. Smoked 5 joints only to see Moses aand the four horses of the Apocalypse rather than pink elephants and psychedelic colors! He had parents who prayed!
Fight for your children. NEVER let up your vigil. It takes time and energy., You cannot sit back and watch from the sideline, expecting everything to be alright. Set the standard - monitor the media coming into your home.
Work together with your spouse. Persevere. You may not always be popular but you are their protector. Plead the blood over your children daily - even the ones that have left home.
This next quote really touched me as there are so many parents out there not raising their own kids!

"How will you live your life? Will you fill it with work and activities so that someone else has to care for your family? MTV is not going to raise my babies. Babysitters are not going to raise my babies. Schools are not going to raise my babies. My wife and I are going to raise our babies in the fear of the Lord." WOW!

6) Fearless about your health
Are you a warrior or a worrier?

7) Fearless about death and eternity.
Hell is a place. The devil's goal is to take as many with him as he can. It you are living wrong you will die wrong, no matter who you are or what you have accomplished.
Heaven is a place. "Nothing we have to sacrifice here is worth missing heaven."
There are only two options!

8) Your refuge from fear
Where do you go to feel safe? God's arms are the best place. Live in HIS shadow. Just visiting once in a while is not enough.

9) You have faith for this
When faced with an impossible task preach to yourself the following:
i. Jesus is with me and He has all power!
ii. God is at the bottom, lowest point.
iii. God has given everyone a measure of faith.

An excellent read on overcoming fear!

An Excellent book written on fear and how to overcome it victoriously. Who of us has no fear? I believe that we can all relate to fear. I know personally that fear is an area where I need to overcome as fear has kept me, time and time again, back from going forth in the assignments I believe that God has given to me.
As I began to read this book I prayed this prayer which Jentezen Franklin has presented in this book:

“Heavenly Father, I want to give You my fears. I turn my whole life over to You. I want to live in faith. I believe; help my unbelief! Fill me with courage, and furnish me with faith. I need it. I want to walk in Your will.” (In Jesus name I pray, amen)

Jentezen Franklin shares his testimonies throughout his book. He also gives sound, scriptural advice.
This is not my first Jentezen Franklin book that I have read nor will it be my last. I love reading anything and everything that this man writes as I believe his words are inspired by the Holy Spirit and give to him to share with us all. I believe these writings are life changing if they are taken to heart and applied.
I recommend this book!

It is extremely difficult for me to maintain the motivation & interest in a book to read it from start to finish in a short amount of time, but this is not an issue with this brilliant masterpiece! About the Author
Dr. Lynn Zubernis is a clinical psychologist, a mom of two, a university professor—and a passionate fangirl. She fell in love with the television show Supernatural, discovered the wild and wonderful world of fandom, and has never looked back. Her writing celebrates all the positive things that come with being a fan—inspiration, creativity, self-expression, validation, and a support system that extends across the globe. She has written for publications including Slate, The Conversation and Supernatural Magazine about fandom, chairs the stardom and fandom area of the Southwest Popular Culture Association, and has contributed to many articles, podcasts, and documentaries on fandom—including NPR’s piece on Supernatural. Amazing! Twenty stories to remind you to Always Keep Fighting!

Holy crap, these stories are intense! I'm so glad that this book was written; for anyone who feels like a "freak" for identifying with fictional characters, this one is a must. The stories are human and thoughtfully written. I don't know why one has never come out before.
There are some real eye-openers, like "Wayward AF" by Kim Rhodes and "Stroke Of Luck" by Rob Benedict, not to mention "My Hero Wears A Beanie" and "Sober For Sam".
But it's Jared Padalecki's story that really hit me hard. I read it twice crying both times because I've totally been where he is. I am in awe of the honesty and bravery of his essay and truly appreciate how hard it must have been for him to write it and share it with us. Thank you so much, Jared.
And thank you, Lynn Zubernis for writing this and making me feel less like a freak! Now I understand WHY I identify the way I do. I am empowered!

I've been a fan of the show for a few years and have fallen in love with two brothers from Kansas who spend their time fighting monsters, "saving people, hunting things." At the same time, I fell in love with two guys from Texas who have shared so much with us, the Supernatural fandom. They're young enough to be my own; I'm so proud of all they manage to do for the Show, the fans, their families, all of it. That they and their friends are willing to share with us what this fandom, this family, means to them is special. The words written by fans and crew, folks we don't know? Some of whom we've never heard of? As Dean Winchester would say, "Awesome!"

Lynn Zubernis does a wonderful job pulling together heartfelt stories from cast, crew, and fans alike. I laughed, cried, and then laughed while I cried. It's that good. She put the book together in a way that it flows, up and down, meandering through topics (some funny, some heart-wrenching, all good) gently and smoothly. At the same time, you can read a chapter and put it down to come back to later. No need to rush through it. (And there are several side articles that explain a few of the charities and organizations that some of these people started/are a part of. Contact information included.)

If you're a fan of Supernatural, or if you just want to read what Misha Collins, Kim Rhodes, Jared Padalecki, Matt Cohen, or any one of several other cast members, crew, or fans who contributed, have to say about this Fandom, this is that book. If you're interested in learning more about the Fandom and how it's affected the lives of the people in and around it, this is that book. If you're looking for something that validates you as a fan of a little show that doesn't play by the rules yet still keeps going after 12 seasons, this is that book.

Not "Just" a Fandom, We're a Family

Awesome. Inspiring. What else is there to say? The Fannish Professors have created another great book, amassing the words from and some great pics of our favorite actors--from the best show ever. There are essays from plain old fans, too--just as amazing, and truly touching. In fact, in true SPN fashion, some of the essays and stories even made me cry.

Better, this books speaks to some issues that many of us--for whatever reason--seem to possess: anxiety and depression. I ended up giving my copy to my daughter (age 19), who was recently diagnosed after suffering debilitating panic attacks. "We" are not alone! This book proves it--we're not just a fandom--we ARE a family!

About the Author

Les Rowntree is a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, where he researches and writes about environmental issues. This career change comes after three decades of teaching both Geography and Environmental Studies at San Jose State University in California. As an environmental geographer, Dr. Rowntree’s interests focus on international environmental issues, biodiversity conservation, and human-caused global change. He sees world regional geography as a way to engage and inform students by giving them the conceptual tools needed to critically assess global issues. Dr. Rowntree has done research in Iceland, Alaska, Morocco, Mexico, Australia, and Europe, as well as in his native California. Current writing projects include a book on the natural history of California’s coast, as well as textbooks in geography and environmental science.

Martin Lewis is a Senior Lecturer in History at Stanford University. He has conducted extensive research on environmental geography in the Philippines and on the intellectual history of global geography. His publications include Wagering the Land: Ritual, Capital, and Environmental Degradation in the Cordillera of Northern Luzon, 1900—1986 (1992), and, with Karen Wigen, The Myth of Continents: A Critique of Metageography (1997). Dr. Lewis has traveled extensively in East, South, and Southeast Asia. His current research focuses on the geographical dimensions of globalization. In April 2009, Dr. Lewis was recognized by Time Magazine, as a favorite lecturer.

Marie Price is a Professor of Geography and International Affairs at George Washington University. A Latin American specialist, Marie has conducted research in Belize, Mexico, Venezuela, Cuba, and Bolivia. She has also traveled widely throughout Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa. Her studies have explored human migration, natural resource use, environmental conservation, and regional development. She is a non-resident fellow of the Migration Policy Institute, a non-partisan think tank that focuses on immigration. Dr. Price brings to Globalization and Diversity a special interest in regions as dynamic spatial constructs that are shaped over time through both global and local forces. Her publications include the co-edited book, Migrants to the Metropolis: The Rise of Immigrant Gateway Cities (2008, Syracuse University Press) and numerous academic articles and book chapters.

Bill Wyckoff is a geographer in the Department of Earth Sciences at Montana State University specializing in the cultural and historical geography of North America. He has written and co-edited several books on North American settlement geography, including The Developer’s Frontier: The Making of the Western New York Landscape (1988), The Mountainous West: Explorations in Historical Geography (1995) (with Lary M. Dilsaver), Creating Colorado: The Making of a Western American Landscape 1860—1940 (1999), and On the Road Again: Montana’s Changing Landscape (2006), and How to Read The American West (2014). In 2003, he received Montana State’s Cox Family Fund for Excellence Faculty Award for Teaching and Scholarship. A World Regional Geography instructor for 27 years, Dr. Wyckoff emphasizes the connections between the everyday lives of his students and the larger global geographies that surround them and increasingly shape their future.

About the Author
Dr. Dan B. Allender received his MDiv from Westminster Theological Seminary and his PhD in Counseling Psychology from Michigan State University.

Dan taught in the Biblical Counseling Department of Grace Theological Seminary for seven years (1983–1989). From 1989–1997 Dan worked as professor in the Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling program at Colorado Christian University, Denver, Colorado. Currently, Dan serves as Professor of Counseling Psychology and President at Mars Hill Graduate School (MHGS.edu) in Seattle, Washington.

He travels and speaks extensively to present his unique perspective on sexual abuse recovery, love and forgiveness, worship, and other related topics. He is the author of The Wounded Heart (NavPress), and has coauthored four books with Dr. Tremper Longman III, Intimate Allies (Tyndale), The Cry of the Soul (NavPress), Bold Love (NavPress), and Breaking the Idols of Your Heart (IVP). Dan and his wife, Rebecca, have three children and live in Seattle, Washington.

Trust the 1-star reviews. This is a very damaging book.

I read the previous reviews of this book, both the 5-star and the 1-star reviews. I was concerned about the 1-star reviews but as a Christian, I thought maybe I would understand the problematic parts from a different perspective. I thought maybe based on the previous reviews, the author would be saying that it's not important if you can remember who hurt you or what was done, or that you have to forgive to be able to move on. I have to say that it is much more victim-blaming than I expected. Very early in the book, he says that even 5-year-old victims are capable of sin, in the sense of being rebellious against God. I skipped ahead to later chapters to skim and see if it got better, and it didn't. This, from one of the last chapters in the book: "The damage the victim does to others by her failure to love God and neighbor with all her being deserves judgment--that is, the just penalty of death and separation from God." From there, the author goes on to compare the victim to the story of the prodigal son in the Bible.

This is extremely damaging to someone who is recovering from childhood sexual abuse. I have to believe that God can heal me and I am trying to learn how to love others. I am working to forgive what was done to me. But to say that my failure to love God and other people enough, while I'm in a broken state, is not going to help me heal.

Could not get past the part of this book regarding ...

Could not get past the part of this book regarding repressed memories. Some of the concerns addressed such as not being called to remember all events regarding repressed memory I think is an unfair and conceivably shaming statement. It is up to the individual's need as to whether they need to remember more or not. How dare the author speak for those abused individuals and their unique road to travel. Update... I re-read some of the first part of this book and I was in error about his one particular statement about repressed memory. Having said that I still would not recommend this book. It is just too shaming for any vulnerable individual dealing with the trauma of sexual abuse. I can't abide any book on sexual abuse, particularly child sexual abuse that points to the victim's sin. Most victims already feel horrendous and overwhelming shame they don't need a finger, no matter how well meaning, pointed in their face.
As a Christian I would recommend "Suffering and the Heart of God" by Diane Langberg. The compassion with which she writes in that particular book is deep and meaningful and, I believe, Christlike. I also recommend it to anyone wanting to walk the path beside someone who is suffering trauma.

Buckle your seat belt

This book is excellent, but should not be read in isolation. If done in a group setting led by someone you trust, you will have companions to journey with as you face your past and the pain of abuse. I have seen change in my own life and in the lives of friends as we worked through the workbook together.

Beginning with identification of present day problems and symptoms related to abuse, it continues with your past history, walking you through your responses to victimization. Denial and memory issues are dealt with as well. It is the best tool I know of to help you connect the effects of past abuse with ongoing damage to relationships in the present. It helps you learn to navigate your internal emotional realm with greater clarity, asking you to walk down paths you have previously avoided because of denial, fear, and confusion.

This book stands out because it goes beyond victimization to helping you examine how your responses to abuse have carried over into adulthood, often in sinful ways. It is unflinchingly honest and the work is difficult. If you are not prepared to examine your heart, I suggest that you put this book aside for another day. It offers no quick fix band-aids, but addresses the need for a thorough cleansing of the wound, bringing your pain to the surface where it can be dealt with. It helps you learn to deal with the damage done to your mind, heart, and emotions, and acknowledges that the difficulty of the struggle is prolonged. It doesn't let you off the hook when it comes to examining your sin, but it is written with empathy and understanding, offering a biblical path to healing and restoration. If you choose to go through this book while entrusting your heart and healing to God, you will be richly rewarded as you begin to see change in yourself and in your relationship to God and others.

I have been waiting to see what would happen with Tate and Isabelle and this was a great follow-up to that story

This story is a continuation of Texas Heat. I have been waiting to see what would happen with Tate and Isabelle and this was a great follow-up to that story. Tate being part of the Blake family definitely was a great call and showing that he "fits" in completely while remaining a stand out personality was one of my favorite parts of the story. This story definitely increased the interaction with the parents and their children. In my opinion, it makes for better character development when we see that interaction along with the love story.

Tate and Isabelle are one of my favorite pairings. I love that they appear opposites in personality, but in reality, they are such a great fit for each other. Both have similar stories in their background that provides a level playing field for them to start and from there this author has written a story that is believable and has characters that makes you want to know more and more about them. I would love to know more about Tate & Isabelle's story. As they continue growing it would be great to see them expand their characters within this family of stories.

Finally Izzy and Tate's Story

After Book 7 I must say I ma very pleased I just love Isabelle and Tate's story they love has been evolving since they were introduced in Texas Heat. Unlike Slow Heat, Isabella and Tate have a part one and now this book is part two. There love story is simply wonderful just as Ms. Laurel did with reigning characters of the series Morgan and Seth. Ms. Laurel writes so fully that even if you haven't been reading the series you could read this one and enjoy it and still follow what's happening with this family. This is a wonderful family and I look forward to reading more of their romances and of course expanding families. Ms. Laurel gives you just the right amount of sexy, totally sensual love scenes and plenty of caring and hot men to enjoy. Izzy and Tate are just so good together that I would encourage you to read their first story Texas Heat the Blake's are an amazing family. This is a great beach summer read!

Rhonda you keep writing gold

My goodness Rhonda please write about another family similar to the Blakes. I have really enjoyed Tate and Isabelle's story.

Isabelle is sweet, beautiful, kind but also strong. She is just the kind of woman Tate needed... someone who believes in him. This book focused on female spouses of the Blake men. I love the relationship these woman have with each other and the love they have for their husbands and in laws.

I must admit this book had me laughing at "The Naughy Nerds". I refuse to spoil the fun by giving out information. It is so refreshing to see the family grow with love, marriage and babies being born.

Tate and Isabelle have such a strong sweet love and nothing can come between them.

I refuse to give all the plots and daily crises away. I highly recommend that you read this book. However start with volume one to completely understand. The series is written as a saga.

diverse examples

Both authors are Russian, but the English in this text is excellent. I cannot tell from it that the authors have a different native language.

There is a slight awkwardness. Chapter 1 in one example refers to a diagram that was originally drawn in colour. So the narrative points to parts in red or blue. But the diagram is in black and white. Worse, the black labels are faded and hard to read. You should be able to safely ignore or overcome this.

The examples are quite diverse and non-trivial. For example, in audio, one example takes us into Ogg Vorbis, which is one of the standard ways to encode or deliver free audio streams. Personally, I use it a lot to hear free Internet radio stations. So it was nice to see an instance of how to code it.

Another example discusses setting up OpenGL 3.0 and 3.2 on Microsoft Windows. You must surely know that OpenGL is a comprehensive graphics library heavily used in desktop applications and gaming. Actually, when I said example, I should have said that an entire chapter is devoted to this crucial topic. Well it should be crucial to you, if you are writing mobile games. So much is judged by users on the graphics experience.

The final 2 chapters draw together all the earlier elements in the text by describing 2 example games. Nothing too complex, but each has enough different diverse parts to be interesting pedagogy.

Helpful in getting started with NDK Game development

The book is as the title suggests a cookbook for developing games using the Android NDK.
While I have only skimmed through the chapters, my initial impression is that it covers the
basic building blocks of game development: toolchain setup, compilation of existing libraries,
audio, video, user interaction, and sums it up in two chapters where the authors discuss 2
basic games.

One criticism I have is that personally I found the Windows-specific code to be off-topic,
perhaps it would have been more suitable for an appendix chapter.

While the book does not seem to go into as much depth as the "Android NDK Beginner's Guide"
it does seem like a nice way to jump into NDK game development. The authors certainly
have a lot of experience to share with someone new to game development of Android.

A good reference for being able to create games on Android using the NDK

If you’d like to try making games on Android using C++, or want to use a C++ library with your current game, this book would be very helpful for you. The last two chapters especially bring it all together, creating two simpler games, just to demonstrate all the basic techniques needed to make any game (A tetris type game, and a picture puzzle that fetches pictures from the internet, and creates a cool little 3d carousel to display them).

This book would be most helpful to someone who either has a C++ background, and wants to create Android games, while trying to avoid Java, or for a current Android Java programmer, who needs or wants higher performance for cpu intensive tasks. The target audience isn’t someone new to programming.
Don’t expect it to teach you C++, or in depth game programming, but it will teach you how to create a game using C++ on Android (and on desktop, which is much more time efficient to debug on, and can really help you get your games out faster). From there you could extrapolate, and use the techniques to create any kind of game you like.

Might be better with separate outlines on each topic

I used this outline for review and with some problems I was having in a course on computational robotics I was taking a couple of years ago and I found this book to be an excellent review that answered all of my questions. However, my stepson used it in his statics and dynamics classes to help with the material when it was being presented to him for the first time, and he said he felt it brushed over some of the material in both classes. Even though this is a hefty outline, perhaps it would be better if they dedicated separate Schaum's outlines to each subject - statics and dynamics - and covered more ground in each subject rather than putting both subjects in the same book. This outline even has one chapter on mechanical vibrations, but it is just barely an overview and hardly gets into the subject at all. It might be best if that chapter were deleted entirely and more space spent on the subjects at hand.

A Great self study book

I bought this book 12 years ago in case i ever needed it. I have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering and a minor in math and we were not required to take an engineering mechanics book in school. I now need the material for my energy research. It is an excellent book although i do have more experience than an undergraduate. It does a decent job explaining how it solves the solved problems. Use this book in tandem with STATICS AND DYNAMICS by Hibbeler (i have the fifth edition) and if you still need help the rea problem solver mechanics. Using those three books you will not see a problem that you cannot solve at the undergraduate level.

Engineer This!

I wholeheartedly recommend this treatise on statics anddynamics, one which I am surprised has not been nominated for aPulitzer Prize. The explanations of the concepts are impeccable, butbuy this book for the cool Venn Diagrams that illustrate most pages.
Of course, one should expect this book to be of high quality, as one of its authors is Dr. Charles Best. Dr. Best is famous for having taught in the Engineering Department at Lafayette College for decades, chairing its Bachelor of Arts in Engineering degree program.
